About the club
The Royal Zeelse Tennis Club was founded in 1955 by Alfons Goossens and Gaston Morel, who collected 10,000 francs from each of 15 Zeelse families to lay out the first two courts. In 2005, the club received the royal title on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. Membership proceeds through an introduction letter with the support of two existing members as godfather or godmother.
The club has four interclub teams and organises the Piet Goossens Cup every year, an official doubles tournament named after one of the honorary presidents. Every Thursday from 7pm there is a regular doubles evening for men's, ladies' and mixed doubles. Youth lessons take place on Saturday mornings in three age categories, and every summer camp is open to children without prior tennis experience. Every two years, the club heads to the Ardennes in autumn, a tradition that has been continued for decades.
